ITALIAN CARVED HALL CHAIR. Second half 19th century. Constructed of walnut and beech, the paneled back with carved guilloche and scrolling vinery beneath the molded crest rail and flanked by carved ram’s-head supports with scrolled and acanthus-carved decorations, centering the rectangular plank seat, raised on shaped paneled supports carved with large claw feet and scrolled and acanthus decorations, joined at the rear by an additional paneled section carved with scrolling vinery. The whole raised on a molded plinth base SIZE: 42-3/4″ h. of back x 31″ overall w. CONDITION: Retains old surfaces with good patina, some insect damage, with restoration to both claw feet. Additional professional restoration to proper left arm in scrollwork. 9-93067 (1,000-1,500)
