FRAMED LOT OF FIVE CIVIL WAR ENVELOPES. (1) Addressed to “Mr. Edward C. Palmer / Co. G. 13th Reg. N.Y. __ / Indianapolis, Maryland / Care of Capt. Thorn.” It has a cancelled 3-cent stamp and has an eagle & flag. (2) Blank envelope “OUR COMPROMISE” with flag & firing canyon. (3) Blank envelope with a Zouave soldier “THE ZOUAVE DEFENDER”. (4) Blank envelope with the vignette of three Union soldiers prodding a male figure up in the air with their bayonets, titled “I ONLY WANT TO BE LET ALONE” and “JEFF’S UNBOUNDED AMBITION GIVES HIM AN ELEVATED POSITION”. (5) Blank envelope with “THE LOYAL STATES” with Lady Liberty holding a flag and leaning on the State Seal of Maryland. The right upper quarter has a large “UNION” surmounted with a ribbon that has “MARYLAND” on it. The letters of the word Union are covered with stars. CONDITION: Slightly yellowed with a couple of stains & minor foxing, only #5 has a small tear, the rest are intact. Frame is fine.
