JMB (British, 19th Century) THE LONG FARWELL. Large oil on canvas scene shows a man with handkerchief knapsack over shoulder wearing a scarf, hat and brown coat leaving his wife who appears to be distraught at his departure. They are standing outside a home which is situated on a hillside with mountains behind. Several colorful chickens are seen on the grass and stone walk. A basket and water bucket along with a stoneware jug and spinning wheel are outside also. Signed with artist monogram bottom right which appears to be a conjoined “JMB” or “JVB”. Housed in its original gesso decorated wide frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 34” x 50”. CONDITION: Generally very good with one small puncture. 9-71391 (3,000-5,000)
