REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY CONVERSION REVOLVER WITH SPARE PERCUSSION CYLINDER. Cal. 44 perc & 46 RF. SN 81903. Blued finish with 8” oct bbl with standard three line bbl markings, 2-pc walnut grips, pinched front sight. This revolver does not have military markings & was most likely made up of leftover military parts around 1868-1870. It comes with a percussion cylinder which as been modified to fit in the conversion recoil plate. SN 1915 appears on the rear of percussion cyl. It is interesting that the 5-shot cartridge cylinder and the 6-shot percussion cylinder can be interchanged and index perfectly in the revolver. The cartridge cyl is marked, “PATENTED APRIL 3D 1855”. Conversion number “1241” is marked on bottom of bbl, and left side of frame under grip. The initials, “UB” are on the left side of the triggerguard. It is also interesting to note that the revolver is referred to on the displayed B. Kittredge letterhead dated 1868 and refers to the two cylinders. Even though it refers to it as a 44 cal. cartridge, consignor feels they really meant the 46 RF cartridges. (These two cartridges used a 44 lead bullet and the 46 was often referred to as a 44. The Remington split breech carbine of the Civil War used a 46 RF cartridge but was called & marked a 44.) CONDITION: Fine, with 60% orig blue mixed with light surface rust & flaking. Grips show normal handling marks. Bore is lightly pitted, action is good. Cartridge cyl has only traces of finish and is mostly a brown patina. 4-59323 JH46 (2,000-2,500)
