ERIC ERSKINE CAMPBELL TUFNELL (British, 1888-1978) THREE SHIP PORTRAITS: “U.S. BARK VERMONT; RICHARD MORSE AND GENERAL BUTLER”. Unframed watercolors of outstanding quality are on watercolor board. 1) U.S. Bark Vermont shows the three-mast ship sailing left to right flying the U.S. flag in a white capped sea and under a morning sunlit sky. Titled lower left “U.S. Bark Vermont, 1866” and signed lower right. 2) Richard Morse three-mast gunship in full sail sailing right to left flying the U.S. flag in white capped sea under a white cloud and blue sky. Titled lower left “Richard Morse” and signed lower right. 3) General Butler shows a three-mast ship at anchor with sails down. Two other sailing ships are seen along with a small steamer and rowboat all seen under an early morning colorful sky. Titled lower left “General Butler 1860″ and signed lower right.
