GEORGE III STERLING REPOUSSE BOWL BY CHARLES KANDLER WITH HISTORICAL PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION. The London 1786-1787 oval shallow bowl has a shaped rim with 24 repousse panels with fruit and flowers. Gold wash interior. Fully hallmarked having an inscription on the bottom “THE GIFT OF ELLEN TO HER BELOVED HUSBAND CHARLES KEAN ON THEIR SILVER WEDDING JANY 29 1867”. Note: The presentation is to British Shakespearean actor and theater producer Charles Kean (1811-1868) by his wife, actress Ellen (Eleanor) Tree Kean (1805-1880) on their 25th wedding anniversary which was less than one year before Charles Kean’s death and Ellen Kean’s retirement from the theater. Total weight 20.3 troy ounces. SIZE: 10-3/4″ l x 8-3/4″ w x 1-3/4″ h. PROVENANCE: Sold in 1982 at auction to benefit the Theater at Monmouth, ME then to a private collection. CONDITION: Some scratches and loss to gilt surface. Otherwise, very good. 5-65361 (1,500-2,500)
