UNIQUE OAK AND CAST COPPER PLAQUE, HMS FOUDROYANT. Early 20th century, England. Produced by “FLETCHER’S ANTIQUE FURNITURE AND THE ‘FOUDROYANT’ COMPANY, LIMITED”. This artistic plaque rendered from the salvaged remnants of the Foudroyant which wrecked off the coast of Blackpool June 16, 1897. The above listed company purchased the salvage rights to the vessel including all of the copper and timbers. Wonderful example is mounted on the back of the plaque with a signed document from the Managing Director, R. Fletcher, certifying the authenticity of the plaque. The cast copper cresting depicting an image of the wreck of the ship within floral sprays, ribbons all beneath the royal crest of the United Kingdom. Mounted on an oak board within nautical motif within spandrels. SIZE: 13-3/4″ h x 11-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: Lot accompanied by an early transcription made by the owner of the label on the reverse of the object. CONDITION: Very fine original condition. With small shrinkage crack upper left corner facing. Very good overall. 9-25222 (800-1,200)
