AMERICAN PICTORIAL SAMPLER WROUGHT BY ELLEN MARIA VINCENT 1843. On ivory linen signed in the center “Ellen Maria Vincent Aged 12 Years 1843” within a rectangular frame flanked by flowering trees, floral filled urn, pairs of birds and stylized church surmounted by a dove with laurel sprig. Centering the following poem “Take, o take me as I am,/And let me lose myself in thee;/Friend of sinners, spotless lamb,/Thy blood was shed for me!”. The bottom third depicting a stylized apple tree, Adam & Eve together with a peacock beneath, further flanked by flowering urns all within a stylized zigzag vinery. Housed in a period frame. SIZE: Sight Size: 16″ x 13″. PROVENANCE: From a Private Collection. CONDITION: Overall very nice with no visible weakness with small areas of old insect damage in upper quadrant. 9-94176 (800-1,200)
