RARE REVERSE PAINTED CHECKERBOARD. Third quarter 19th century, American. The marbleized playing field within a border comprised of four panels, each painted with a pair of birds, each corner with a square panel decorated with bluebells, roses, and floral sprays. The whole on an eglomise panel, and mounted within a molded frame. SIZE: Sight: 17-1/4″ x 17-1/2″. Overall: 23″ x 23″. CONDITION: The polychrome painted surfaces appear untouched and with vibrant colors. Overall very good. 9-28465 (1,500-2,500)
