MASSACHUSETTS FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY TAMBOUR SECRETARY. First quarter 19th century, probably Salem. In two parts, the rectangular upper bookcase section with pediment cresting and spire ball and eagle brass finials above a pair of astragal-glazed doors, each fitted with classical eglomise panel above a prospect door with oval flame birch patera flanked by tambours all opening to interiors fitted with valanced pigeon holes and small drawers with contrasting string inlays. The bookcase stepped back and fitted on the lower case having a hinged writing surface inset with leather above three long drawers, the uppermost flanked by lopers. All with flame birch panels within rosewood crossbanded borders raised on square tapered legs with inlaid cuffs. SIZE: 85″ h x 38″ w x 19-3/4″ d. PROVENANCE: Collection and shop contents of Linda and the late Vito Peri (owners of the Blue Dolphin Antique Shop, Northport, Maine). CONDITION: Professionally cleaned, polished and restored. Brasses original, as are eglomise panels, which have dry surfaces and paint loss. Generally very good. 9-90040 (2,500-4,500)
