FINE PENCIL AND INK DRAWING OF THE DAVIS MAXWELL HOMESTEAD. Last quarter 19th century. The drawing signed “Harry Cochrane”, lower right. The backing of the picture with attached note reading as follows, “Signed Harry Cochrane painting. Housed within a period lemon gold frame. Circa 1885-90 for Monmouth-Wales town inventory compiled + published in 1894. This appears in volume 2, page 758 of said works. Home of Davis Maxwell, Wales, ME (Pond Road). Mr. Maxwell was born in 1835. Grandson of Jonathan Davis of Lisbon. His daughter, Elsie, married Charles Ham (B. 1865) in 1889. The house was destroyed by fire in 1915-18. Said to have been caused by a hobo who jumped the train and set fire to the barn. Davis Maxwell married Mary Ellen Davis, also a grandchild of Jonathan Davies. They were cousins. ” SIZE: Sight: 8-1/2″ x 14″. Overall: 17″ x 21″.
