MID-ATLANTIC FEDERAL WALNUT BIBLE BOX. Circa 1820, probably Virginia. The dovetailed walnut box with hinged panel lid applied with molded edges, joined to the conforming dovetailed box mounted with three aligned locks and escutcheons on a molded base, raised on shaped bracket feet. The lid mounted with an oval silver name plate inscribed in script “From the / Marriner’s Society / to / Mr R. Morwan / 1820”. SIZE: 8-1/2″ h x 20″ l x 13-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Box retains old original surfaces and fittings such as hinges and lock. Feet original. The lid with old professional restoration in area of hinges and a restored split near front of top.
