FRAMED 19TH CENTURY SCHOOLGIRL PICTORIAL & VERSE SAMPLER BY REBECCA DOWMAN, 1835. Colors in green and gold with black verses. The border being an undulating three-head flower vine. The top section having two large flower urns, three smaller flowers and two flowering trees having flying butterflies. The central large six-line verse flanked by flowers centering on a single perched parrot over a two-story house flanked by baskets of fruit, flowering trees, small plants and a single small lion. Three smaller verses as follows: “Rebecca Dowman, is my name and with my needle work the same that all who read may plainly see how kind my parents were to me…” Below which is stitched “Ockbrook National School, 1835″. Housed in a carved oak frame with gilt liner and glass. SIZE: Sight: 17″ x 17”. CONDITION: Consistent toning to background, very good. 9-20777 (1,200-1,600)
