GEORGE III INLAID MAHOGANY SLANT LID DESK. Last quarter 18th century. The rectangular case fitted with a sloping lid opening to an interior fitted with an arrangement of stepped drawers beneath pigeon holes centering a prospect door fitted with two small drawers. The whole above a well concealed with a sliding lid. The writing surface of tooled leather. All above a frieze inlaid with an oval patera within a crossbanded border flanked by lopers over a pair of aligned short drawers above two graduated long drawers on a molded base raised on bracket feet. The whole string inlaid and crossbanded. SIZE: 41″ h x 37″ w of case x 20″ d. PROVENANCE: Estate of Nancy H. Woods, Boothbay, Maine. CONDITION: The original surfaces with dark patina. Overall losses to veneers. Also minor shrinkage cracks. Damage on right rear foot facing: pet damage. This example in need of cosmetic restoration. 9-20903 (800-1,200)
