SCHOOL OF DAVID TENIERS II (Flemish, 1610-1690) “THE ESSENCE VENDOR”. Unframed oil on canvas scene shows a young man in red coat, brown shirt, blue pants with white socks strolling forward holding a bottle in one hand and balancing a basket of bottles at waist. The backdrop is a small town under blue and white cloud sky. Unsigned but having several old paper descriptions on reverse. One stating “Bought at auction by James Tolman at the time of his marriage in 1844″. A letter from the Museum of Fine Art, Boston discusses the painting with its potential attributes.
