EDWARD LOYAL FIELD (American, NY, 1856-1914) NEW YORK PASTURES. Oil on canvas. Laid on hardboard (but not affixed) of impressionist landscape scene depicting hilly pastures bisected by stone fence. Probably Catskills or Hudson River Valley, and probably done in the 1880’s to 1890’s. Signed on reverse canvas. Framed in the reproduction antique-style gilt gesso frame. Ex the estate of E. L. Field, (Tovar collection number 16A.) Field studied in France under Carolus-Duran. After returning to the U.S., he became a full member of New York’s prestigious Salmagundi Club.
