EARLY AMERICAN OVAL PINE AND BIRCH TAVERN TABLE. Second half of the 18th Century. Probably Northern New England. The oval pine top with traces of original green paint projecting above a square molded frieze joined to block and baluster turned splayed legs joined by a molded rectangular box stretcher and terminating in tapered cylindrical feet. SIZE: 23″ h x 33-1/2″ l x 19-1/2″ w. CONDITION: This example has been stripped of its original paint and is now with a later application of varnish or shellac. Of pinned and mortise construction, the legs, apron and stretchers all appear original. The feet appear to retain near original height. 9-97878 (800-1,200)
