ATTRIBUTED TO FREDERIC SCHILLER COZZENS (American, 1846-1928) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE BRITISH IRON BARK “NEWARK”. Watercolor portrait shows the three-mast black hulled bark sailing right to left in choppy sea. A vessel is seen off the bow and stern. British flag off stern and the name of the ship emblazoned on the bow. Thirteen men can be seen on the deck. The “Newark” was built in 1876 at Port Glasgow, Scotland and registered out of that port. Housed in a gilt modern frame (no glass). A nice portrait rendered in good detail. SIZE: Sight: 17-1/2″ x 27″. CONDITION: Laid down on board, evidence of several tears, stains, foxing, fair to good. 9-24379 (2,000-3,000)
