CARVED AND PAINTED TOBACCONIST FIGURE OF A NATIVE AMERICAN CHIEF. Second half 19th century, American. Carved with seven feather headdress and with a running horse on the band. Modeled with a carved wolf skin cape clasped below the neck, a round shield in his right hand, a placard “CIGARS” across the front over the figure of a thunderbird. The figure wearing a short blue tunic adorned with feathers tied with a sash and wearing thigh high tied moccasins. Mounted on original stepped platform on wheels. SIZE: Figure: 64″ h. Overall: 76″ h. CONDITION: Old painted surfaced with touched up areas. With old restoration to headdress. Object held in left hand absent. General areas of wear and abrasion throughout.
