TWO EARLY MAPS. Both being unframed but matted. 1) Titled “Romani Imperii Imago” with Map Maker “Abraham Ortelius”. Striking map of the Roman Empire from a 17th Century Latin edition of Ortelius’ Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first modern atlas of the world. Strong dark impression with wide clean margins. Several decorative cartouches, 2 portraits, sailing ship and a historical tree showing details. Back side having written text. 2) 17th C map of Morovia by Abraham Ortelius. Copper engraving, hand colored in outline and wash. Fine and decorative early map of Moravia. The map provides good information’s on early place names in the 16th century in Moravia, as well rivers and mountains are engraved. Villages and towns are still shown as miniature views. In the upper left corner the renaissance cartouche and in the lower right corner a mileage scale with a circle and the coats of arms of Moravia. Hinge mounted with text on reverse.
