CHARLES HUNT II (British, 1829-1900) “CHILDREN’S FROLICS, 1861”. Oil on canvas genre scene shows an interior room with seven boys in various activities. One boy dresses as a woman and as he puts on his flower decorated bonnet another boy laughs holding up a mirror. Another boy pretends to be the man of the family with cane, pipe, and bonnet. Two young boys eat jam from a jar and one boy drinks tea from the spout of the tea kettle. The room is filled with accessories including filled china cupboard, slant lid desk and tray with upset china. Signed lower right and dated “1861”. Housed in a fancy gold pierced period frame. SIZE: 28″ x 36-1/4″. CONDITION: Inpainting, heavy varnish layer. Very good. 9-23576 (4,000-6,000)
