SCARCE “STATE OF MAINE” SECRETARY. This Sheraton secretary, done in the same style as the well known and frequently encountered State of Maine chest of drawers. Typified by their high Sheraton turned legs and hardwood construction. These chests, constructed in the early 19th century have always been a popular style. This secretary, however, is a rare form in that very, very few pieces of furniture in this style appear. This being hardwood with mahogany veneer on the front and having a small felt lined drop lid and three full length drawers on the front. The upper portion of two large mahogany veneered doors which open to reveal a series of five drawers and a various pigeon holes. The drawer fronts now fitted with replacement Victorian brass pulls. SIZE: 42” w x 20” d x 54-1/2” h. CONDITION: Wrinkles and imperfections in the veneer on both doors. A drying separation in the side of the secretary and a couple of other minor imperfections.
