WILLIAM MATHEW PRIOR (American, 1806-1873) THE HOME OF WASHINGTON. Oil on canvas scene shows a column front building with other smaller buildings on a bluff overlooking water and mountains with sails and steamboat. In foreground are twin obelisk memorial stones with a tall fenced area having arched gate. All seen under a late afternoon sky with blue sky and white clouds. On the reverse is stenciled “Painting Garret No. 36 Trenton St. East Boston W.M. Prior”. Housed in a period lemon gold wood frame. SIZE: 19″ x 24-3/4″. PROVENANCE: From a large Boston, MA area Estate. CONDITION: Craquelure, some small chip losses, generally very good. 9-99346 (2,000-4,000)
