FINE INLAID OAK MINIATURE BLANKET CHEST. First quarter 19th century, German. The small casket form chest with hinged lid. The sides incurved and inlaid with ebony and satinwood flower heads, opening to an interior fitted with a lidded till. The base with sloping sides, each with an inlaid five-pointed star within ebony and satinwood string inlaid borders on a molded base with angular outswept feet. Bottom of box retains an early paper label marked, “GUSTAV KNAUER/Hot-Spediteur/BERLIN”. SIZE: 12-1/2″ h x 19-1/2″ l x 12″ d. PROVENANCE: From a fine coastal Westerly, Rhode Island estate. CONDITION: With dark color and undisturbed patina. Brass carrying handle at center of lid, a later replacement. Iron hinges and lockplate original. Generally very good. 9-28346 (500-800)
