FINE NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER WROUGHT BY LUCY ANN TRASK OF WISCASSET, MAINE. Ca. 1833. Wrought with multiple upper and lower case alphabet rows and a row of numerals above four rows of verse within a border of meandering. stylized strawberry vines centering a basket with floral bouquet. Wrought in earth tones of green, beige and pink. The lower lines read: “Wrought by Lucy Ann Trask/ January 16 1833 aged 8″. Mounted in later frame, SIZE: Sight Size is 17″ x 17”. PROVENANCE: This sampler descended in the estate of Richard Edmands Chapman of Boston, MA a descendant of Edward Chapman who arrived in Boston in 1639. Richard Edmands Chapman was the only child of George Washington Chapman who was a ship captain from Wiscasset, Maine. Chapman sailed cargo to England and France and Cuba during the early to mid-1800’s. Lucy Ann Trask is a direct descendant of George Washington Chapman. CONDITION: Very good overall with general fading, minor stains throughout border areas, most notably with a triangular water stain left, lower corner facing. 9-94447 (500-750)
