MID-ATLANTIC FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY SIDEBOARD. Early 19th century, probably Baltimore. The rectangular mahogany crossbanded and string inlaid top with serpentine front and canted corners projecting above the conforming case fitted with a bow front central drawer above an arched cross banded apron flanked by incurved doors raised on tapered legs. Each front leg inlaid with oval paterae depicting two dimensional stylized corn sheaf and flower head above bell flowers within a string inlaid border and with crossbanded cuffs. SIZE: 40″ h x 66″ l x 27-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: A similar sideboard is illustrated in Antiques magazine, August 1967 in an article concerning the recent acquisition by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association to accompany an original sideboard listed in the inventory of home furnishings of George Washington. (Original article accompanies this lot.) CONDITION: Professionally repolished, the top with faded medium brown patina and old filled shrinkage cracks.
