PAIR OF EARLY AMERICAN LADDERBACK ARM CHAIRS IN BLACK PAINT. Second half 18th century. Four arched graduated slats joined to sausage turned stiles headed by spool and ball-turned knopped finials. The outturned arms with scrolled grips on sausage and ring-turned supports centering a trapezoidal woven rush seat. The whole joined by a double turned box stretcher. SIZE: 43″ h of back, 15″ h of seat. CONDITION: With old black paint over original red wash. One chair with old repair to top slat. Otherwise very good. 9-21676 (1,500-2,500)
