MANUSCRIPT JOURNAL FOR TEN PARTIAL WHALING VOYAGES. Of special note is one complete voyage on the New Bedford, Mass whaling ship Polar Star from 1860 to 1861 which wrecked on the Kamchatka peninsula. This is the fifth voyage of this journal and is the only known account and outlines the crews’ rescue by the New Bedford whaling ship the Crocker on Wednesday, May 22, 1861. The journal is replete with half and whole whale stamp illustrations on some of the whaling voyage entries, pen/pencil drawings of three ships; one schooner and one brig and two pages of poetry at the end. A fascinating account written by keepers Loring Casswell, Elbridge Casswell, James K. Wilson and John Leary. SIZE: Overall 16″ x 10″.
