LARGE MAINE MAHOGANY GRAINED EMPIRE SECRETARY DESK. 2nd quarter 19th century. In two parts, the cupboard top with molded cornice above a pair of doors with raised panels opening to an interior of four fixed shelves, fitted to the deep lower case having a small sloping lid above lopers, above a molded long drawer over three additional long drawers flanked by scrolling pilasters continuing to large rolled feet. The whole with simulated figured mahogany graining. SIZE: 93-1/2″ h. x 40-3/4″ overall w. x 23″ d. PROVENANCE: From the Hammond Street Congregational Church, Bangor, Maine. CONDITION: Secretary retains all original surfaces, with some surface scratches and spotting, notably to slant lid. Molding on upper cupboard door missing 6-inch section.
