FINE ONESIME DUMAS CHRONOMETER, NO. 690. Mid 19th century. Fine example mounted in its original three-part mahogany case with external brass handles, double hinged lid, the front of which is inset with ivory rondel incised “DUMAS/690”. The brass bowl in gimbaled suspension, ratchet key in its bracket in the back. Dial frosted and silvered with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and 49-hour up-and-down sector. Dial marked in enameled lettering “O. DUMAS. No. 690/a St. Nicolas Pres Dieppe”. SIZE: Case: 7″ h x 7″ w x 7″ d. CONDITION: Mahogany case in need of repolishing with some shrinkage cracks in lid. Escutcheon on lower cabinet absent. Gimbaled frame intact. Silvered dial generally very good. Bottom molding of case with piece absent. 9-25571 (800-1,200)
