*OUTSTANDING PRE-WAR POST-WAR COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH BOX. SN 357405. Cal. 38 Spcl. Blue & color case hardened with 5-1/2″ bbl, full front sight, 1-line block letter address & left side of bbl marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 38 SPECIAL”. Left side of frame has 2-line, 3-patent dates and rampant Colt. Mounted with smooth 2-pc pearl grips. Accompanied by a copy of a Colt factory letter identifying this revolver in caliber 38 Spcl. with 5-1/2″ bbl, blue finish, pearl stocks and shipped to “Mr. Grayham Anthony / President, Colt’s Patent Firearms / Hartford CT” on Oct. 14, 1948. Under remarks section; “This is one of four guns delivered to Mr. Anthony, evidently for presentation. Mr. Anthony was president of the Colt Co. from 1944-1949.” Additionally accompanied by a copy of a notarized letter by Douglas L. Conner of Orlando, FL who states that he is the grandson of Benjamin Franklin Conner, Sr. and that this revolver, identified by SN, was a gift from Grayham Anthony to his grandfather when Mr. Conner,Sr. was president of Colt Mfg. Co. Also accompanied by an orig 2nd Generation style hinged lid black cardboard box with gold “COLT” logo on lid and a black & gold end label marked “38 SPECIAL” and 5-1/2″ bbl. There is a partially visible number on the bottom that appears to begin with a “3” with the third number being a “7” and the fourth number a “4”. The other numbers are indecipherable. Box contains the orig factory target for this revolver and a “Shooting Suggestions” pamphlet. The SN was observed in usual place on bottom of frame and on right side of front & back straps under grip with last two digits of SN on rear face of cylinder. According to Colt Peacemaker Encyclopedia, Volume 2, Cochran, only 338 of these rare revolvers were assembled after WWII from pre-WWII manufactured parts with the very last shipments in 1972, long after Colt had begun producing the second generation single actions. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, all matching except grips which are unnumbered. Overall retains virtually all of its orig factory finish with strong crisp blue and brilliant case colors. Bbl & ejector rod housing show only the most faint sharp edge wear with moderately faded left recoil shield on the frame and one small spot of pitting on recoil shield. Trigger guard & back strap retain virtually all of their crisp orig blue with a few scattered spots of pin prick rust on back strap. Cyl retains about all of its orig factory blue with only a faint cyl line. Hammer is crisp, with bright sides, and bright fire blue on top & rear edges. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore, probably unfired. Box is fine with worn edges but completely sound and intact. 4-40143 JR120 (15,000-20,000)
