FINE PAIR OF GEORGE III GAINSBOROUGH MAHOGANY CHAIRS. Second half 18th Century England. This nice pair of open armchairs with serpentine crest rail, over-upholstered rectangular back joined to shaped arm rests continuing to scrolled molded grips downswept supports centering the trapezoidal over upholstered seat raised on square chamfered legs. The rear legs backswept joined by a recessed box stretcher. SIZE: 39″ h of back, 27-1/2″ w of seat, 15″ h of seat. PROVENANCE: Woolworth Family, (F.W. Woolworth Department Store). CONDITION: Very good with old polished surfaces. One chair with repair to cross stretcher resulting in repair to proper right side of box stretcher. Otherwise very good. 9-24665 (10,000-20,000)
