GROUP OF THREE NANTUCKET LIGHTSHIP BASKETS. Second half 20th century, Massachusetts. Largest, a round 11″ example with swing handle, underside marked “___ SNYDER” in ink. Second, a round 9″ example with swing handle, paper label affixed to base “I’m made in Nantucket,/I’m strong and I’m stout;/Don’t lose me or burn me,/ And I’ll never wear out!/MITCHELL RAY/Starbuck’s Court/Nantucket Island, Mass.” Third, an unsigned oval purse with lid mounted with a carved sperm whale on a mahogany plaque. SIZE: As noted. Purse: 7″ h of body x 9-1/4″ l. CONDITION: First generally good with untouched surfaces. Second slightly out of round, handle reattached. Third, one bone pin for handle absent, lid detached, binding around rim of purse broken and 1/3 missing. 9-25600 (400-600)
