UNSIGNED (20th Century) “AMERICAN LINE S.S. CITY OF NEW YORK”. Oil on canvas mounted to board promotional painting shows a three-stack ship sailing right to left between two points of land, one having a city with the Eiffel Tower, the other with white cliffs and English castle. Above the ship are three colorful hot air balloons, one flying the French flag, the other British. Centered in the blue sky with white clouds is a fine painted advertising area having five lines centered on a shield with U.S. and French crossed flags, above which is a gold spread winged eagle. The lines as follows: “American Line”; “Ligne Transatlantique”; “Grand Paquebot”; “S.S. City of New York”; and “South Hampton Cherbourg, New York”. Housed in a modern gilt molded wood frame with glass. SIZE: 25″ x 45″. CONDITION: Very good. 9-24067 (5,000-6,000)
