FINE SHERATON INLAID MAHOGANY CARD TABLE. First third 19th century, Salem, Massachusetts. The rectangular hinged top with half serpentine ends, ovolo corners and serpentine front above the conforming frieze inlaid with figured birch panels centering a mahogany central panel with contrasting oval string inlay. The top edge and apron base each with an inlaid border of lunettes continuing around the engaged half round reeded corner*. Raised on ring turned tapered reeded legs with ringed cuffs and tapering cylindrical feet. *Note: characteristics of the half round corners with horizontal reeding together with the treatment of the legs are similar to details found in other examples attributed to Nehemiah Adams working in Salem 1790-1830. The lunettes, characteristic of the Seymour Shop, Boston have also been found in other North Shore examples. SIZE: 30″ h x37″ w x 18″ d. CONDITION: Table appears all original. The fly rail of the single swing leg with dovetailed repair rejoining leg to rail. Generally very good. 9-26299 (2,000-4,000)
