GEORGE III BRACKET CLOCK, FLADGATE, LONDON. The ebony and gilt brass domed case with carrying handle, the sides with silk-lined fishscale frets, the corners with fluted brass quarter-round pilasters having a front and back hinged tombstone door with glass panels, opening to a silvered dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring enclosing a date aperture beneath the script signature “Fladgate London” (John Fladgate 1750-1781), centered by cast brass scrolled spandrels beneath two aligned subsidiary dials. The brass movement with fusee mechanism, driven by cable not chain, with pillars and striking bell, the brass backplate engraved. The whole on a molded and brass-bound plinth raised on ogee bracket feet. SIZE: Case: 11-1/2″ h. x 8-3/4″ w. x 6-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, ME. CONDITION: The case with original surfaces, structurally very good. The dial and movement appear original. Working condition unknown. Pendulum and bob missing. 9-92551 (2,500-3,500)
