OUTSTANDING PAINTED FIRE SCREEN BY RALPH CAHOON (American, 1910-1982). Outstanding curved & shaped sheet steel adjustable screen with tripod scroll wire base painted in red. The screen depicting a raised red curtain with white lace edge opening to reveal a three-mast American ship in full sail with thirteen crew members. It flies an American flag under a blue & white cloud sky. An expanse of bluish/green water with a bottom depiction of ocean creatures including three mermaids, a serpent, and fish. On the right two of the mermaids are leaning on a partial framed plaque inscribed “Painted for Captain Winsor White by Cahoon”. SIZE: 46″ h x 19″ w.
