EDOUART, AUGUSTIN (FRENCH 1789-1861) SILHOUETTE PORTRAIT OF DAVID DIXON PORTER. Circa 1841, Washington, DC. The full silhouette portrait depicting Lt. Porter reading a newspaper seated in a rocking chair, within a parlor enhanced with graphite and ink. Inscribed lower left Aug. Edouart Washington 1841. Additionally, the backboard is inscribed in pencil “Lieut, David D. Porter, U.S. Navy/1841.” Housed in its original birdseye maple frame. SIZE: 12″ x 9-1/4″ sight. PROVENANCE: By descent through the Stephen Decatur family. CONDITION: Overall in very fine condition, small areas of foxing in center above figure of silhouette.
