*FINE DELUXE MODEL 2 REMINGTON ROLLING BLOCK SPORTING RIFLE. SN 14524. Cal. 22. Beautiful deluxe Rolling Block with 26″ oct bbl, half nickel front sight and Remington semi-buckhorn rear sight. Bbl marking is on top flat forward of rear sight. Bottom flat of bbl has the caliber marking forward of forearm and the SN under the forearm. Receiver is color case hardened and it is mounted with very highly figured, tiger striped, checkered American walnut with tiny round steel schnable tip forearm with shoulders at the receiver end. Buttstock has a checkered rnd knob pistol grip with shoulders at the receiver and a smooth Remington steel buttplate. SN was observed on bottom tang, bottom flat of bbl under forearm with last four digits on the rear face of the forearm trunion, in the bottom tang channel of the buttstock and inside the buttplate. Left side of the upper & lower tangs are marked with the number “2663”. Top tang is mounted with a reproduction Remington style tang sight. According to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms only a few thousand of these scarce rifles were produced in the period 1873 – 1910 in a large variety of calibers from 22 rimfire to 44-40. PROVENANCE: Bruce M. Cady Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very fine plus, all matching. Bbl retains about 95% strong orig blue with a spot of pin prick pitting on top flat toward the front sight and a couple of minor scratches with some thinning over the forearm area. Receiver retains about all of its moderately faded orig case colors, stronger in sheltered areas. Trigger guard & lower tang are mostly case colors turned gray, stronger on webs of trigger guard. Breech block & hammer retain about all of their orig factory blue. Buttplate is cleaned gray metal patina. Wood is sound with a small scrape on left side of buttstock and usual light handling & use marks and retains about all of its bright orig factory varnish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore, slightly frosty just in front of chamber. 4-36928 JR231 (4,000-7,000)
