FINE PAIR OF CARVED AND GILT ARCHITECTURAL EAGLES. First half 19th century, American. Carved as opposing displayed eagles each on a rockwork plinth, plumage deeply carved and gilt decorated overall. Note: Carvings of this form often found above interior doorways. These particular examples, unfinished at the back, were designed to be mounted against a wall or other such structure. SIZE: 13″ h x 30-1/2″ wingspan. CONDITION: Structurally very good with old reinforcement straps to backs of wings. Surfaces appear to be untouched. 7-70097 (5,000-7,000)
