EXCEPTIONAL DECORATED DOME TOP BOX. Last quarter 18th century, New England. This diminutive example paint-decorated with sunflower-on-stem design within mustard and ochre designs on the lid. The front decorated with polka dotted red swag above an undulating green band, all within striated brown borders. The back, sponge decorated. The box with wood pegged joinery and with original wire snipe hinges. SIZE: 9″ h x 17″ l x 10″d. CONDITION: Painted surfaces in very good to excellent untouched condition with minor abrasions, and with early, small chip losses to edges of box. The lid with structural repair, proper left side at hinge mount. Additional, small, early repair of stress crack above proper right hinge. 9-27810 (2,500-3,500)
