RARE FEDERAL MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK, JAMES CARY, JR. Circa 1825, Brunswick, Maine. The arched molded cornice surmounted by scrolling pierced fretwork, centering an eagle and ball brass finial, flanked by brass spire and ball finials on reeded columns. The bonnet with arched door, flanked by freestanding reeded columns opening to a painted and gilt decorated iron dial, the arch with moon phase dial. With Arabic and Roman Numeral chapter rings, centering a sweep seconds subsidiary dial above time, strike, and calendar apertures. With eight-day weight driven brass movement. The case throat with rectangular molded door, now with contrasting checkerboard banding of possibly later date centering a figured mahogany panel and flanked by engaged quarter columns with brass capitals and bases. Joined to the cove molded box base, similarly crossbanded, the whole raised on delicate French feet. Clock is offered with winder, door key, cylinder weights and pendulum. SIZE: 95″ h x 15″ w of throat x 10″ d. CONDITION: Movement is original, fretwork with some restoration, dial with original paint and correct signature. Checkerboard inlay probably a later enhancement. Case has been re-polished at an early date. Front of base with slight bowing. Overall very good. 9-27702 (7,000-9,000)
