WILLIAM EDWARD NORTON (American, 1843-1916) “OFF THE BATTERY EXITING NEW YORK HARBOR”. Outstanding oil on canvas New York harbor scene shows a two-mast boat with sails up sailing right to left leaving the harbor. A large three-mast ship, other sailboats, a steam tug and a large freighter are seen in front of large buildings. Blue and white cloud sky with blue white capped ocean. Signed lower left “William E Norton”. Housed in its original wide gold frame with gold liners. On back of original frame is a Bigelow & Jordan label. SIZE: 20″ x 25″. CONDITION: Very good, patch to reverse with restored hole with some inpainting. 9-97607 (15,000-25,000)
