UNSIGNED (19th Century) PORTRAIT OF THE SHIP “M. BOWKER”. Gouache on paper portrait shows a black and gold hull three-mast ship with sails up sailing right to left flying American flag. Company flag off middle mast in red and blue with a white “C”. A smaller sailboat is off stern with “7 DEAL” on sail. Off the bow can be seen a large brown and white lighthouse with smaller lighthouse and buildings. Twelve figures on deck with the captain on top of deck house with spyglass. A very colorful rendering. The ship name at back side of boat. Housed in an antique molded wood frame. SIZE: 20-3/4″ h x 28-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine.
