*WINCHESTER 1894 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE. SN 68209. Cal .30 WCF 26″ 1/2 rnd bbl with Beaches combination front sight and Winchester express rear sight with short yardage leaves. Bbl marked on top flat “MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.” left flat marked “NICKLE STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER”. Button magazine. Standard blued receiver and case colored hammer, trigger and lever. Combination tang peep sight with coarsely knurled post. Steel shotgun butt. Stock and forend of straight grain walnut.Accompanied by a fax from the Cody Firearms Museum confirming the special order features, except sights, and listing the date shipped as 9-28-1899 for order # 39338. CONDITION: Fine. 95% bbl blue with slight edge wear and widely scattered areas of very light pitting. Receiver has bright blue mixing with patina and light edge wear. Very good case colors on hammer, trigger and lever. Buttplate is a blue/patina mix. Sound buttstock with some darkening of the orig finish and normal handling marks. Forend has orig finish, normal handling marks with two indentations on bottom surface. Crisp action, bore has strong rifling and slight darkening in the grooves. 4-40955 DS (2,500-3,500)
