RARE AND IMPORTANT DECORATED CHILD’S BLANKET CHEST. Mid 18th century, New England. This fine example with later (circa 1820) Folk Art scenic decoration, depicting a young boy at play with his dog in a pastoral setting with colonial home with flower garden border flanked by apple trees, all on a green ground. The lid and sides decorated with polka dot swabs. The shallow chest with boot jack ends and hinged chamfered lid, opening to an interior fitted with till. The chest fastened overall with rosehead nails. SIZE: 16-1/2″ h x 37-1/2″ l x 13″ d. CONDITION: Untouched condition, with overall abrasions and scratches. Old stress cracks at lower front corners, and with age appropriate shrinkage cracks, right side facing. Otherwise very good. 9-27798 (8,000-12,000)
