FINE EARLY AMERICAN PAINT-DECORATED BOX. First quarter 19th century. The rectangular hinged lid fitted with brass carrying handle opening to a floral wallpaper covered interior. The lid painted with a polychrome floral and fruit wreath with spandrels of leaf tips. The front with a strawberry and floral-filled basket on a mustard yellow ground. One end of the box a pointillated portrait of an American ship of the line rendered overall with placards and banners of American patriotic slogans. Opposing end decoupage of an industrial print of a 19th century scene. SIZE: 6-1/2″ h x 12″ l x 6-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Generally good with original surfaces.
