*EXTREMELY RARE FACTORY ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 55 DELUXE LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 1817. Cal. 30WCF, 24-1/4″ tapered rnd bbl, half magazine take-down, pedestal front ramp with gold bead sight, sporting rear sight with set screw. Left side of bbl below sight is marked “MODEL 55 – WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK – NICKEL STEEL – 30W.C.F.” Right side “MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN. CONN.” Top of bbl at take-down ring has 1-1/2″ wedge of open foliate scroll. Left side at ring “WP” proof mark. Corresponding “WP” can be found on top left side of receiver. Take-down ring has single line border engraving. Receiver is factory engraved in #2 pattern with foliate arabesque scrolls, left side with buck and doe deer in meadow scene and bull moose on right side. Top of receiver, rear of bolt and top tang have wedges of open foliate scroll. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, B-carved pistol grip, Winchester hard rubber grip cap, serrated steel shotgun butt, B-carved forend, nose cap with foliate scroll around screw. This rifle is pictured in R.L. Wilson’s Winchester Engraving, second edition, page 290, a full page color spread showing both sides. CONDITION: Extremely Fine. Bbl retains 96-97% orig blue with minor muzzle wear, a couple minor handling marks, and a couple spots of very faint, fine surface oxidation. Receiver and take-down ring retain 97-98% orig blue, just starting to show bright on some of the sharp edges and flaked around screw on lever link blending with silver and brown patina. Hammer shows orig blue with some silvering on both sides. Lever shows orig blue with some flaking and blending with brown patina. Stock is sound with a couple minor handling marks and retaining its fine orig oil finish. Forend is sound with a couple minor handling marks, retaining orig oil finish blended with some hand-worn patina. Mechanics are crisp with a bright shiny bore. 4-40632 BDT247 (30,000-50,000)
