UNSIGNED (19th Century) PORTRAIT OF AN AMERICAN SHIP. Oil on canvas scene shows a green hulled ship sailing left to right flying American flag and a flag at center in red, white and blue stripes with what appears to be “Izac”. The ship is shown with some sails up in a green, wavy ocean. Cliffs can be seen off bow and a lighthouse on rock bluff is seen off stern. Seven figures on deck in a nicely detailed rendering. Well rendered sky shows a break in building clouds. Housed in an antique gesso decorated frame which is “as is”. SIZE: 19-1/2″ x 28″. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine. CONDITION: Five small canvas repairs to back, some craquelure. Does not show anything under blacklight but a light masking varnish. 9-92437 (4,000-6,000)
