TWO VOLUME DIARY OF SAMUEL PHILBRICK, BROOKLINE, MASS 1830-1856. A remarkably detailed diary covering the period 1830-1856 with thorough records of weather and many interesting references to the anti-slavery movement, various shipwrecks, farming notes, a visit to his home by Lucretia Mott, and William Lloyd Garrison and Mrs. Garrison as well as detailed accounts of escaped fugitive slaves. In addition, on July 23, 1837 he recounts the attack by a group of “ruffians” upon Mr. Codding who was giving an anti-slavery lecture at Brighton, with mention of September 1848 of the Eastern railroad and the Burlington railroad. Also included is a printed card from Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. Each volume has more than 150 pages each.
